New trail maps for Turkey Mountain have been released, and are viewable at the new kiosks near the Turkey Mountain parking lot. The trail maps feature over 20 miles of GPS-mapped trails in full color.

Big thanks to Ron Haveman, who GPS-mapped all of the trails. He is credited on the maps for his monumental summer project.

Map looks great so far. I can’t wait until it is finished
Don’t know why I have waited so long to visit Turkey Mtn…Wow , had a great walk today on the last day of 2011. What a beautiful place! ~ Thanks so much to all who keep this park going. What a treasure in Tulsa.
Just a note to all of you that enjoy Turkey Mtn – this small bit of “urban wilderness” that we are so blessed with in Tulsa: I ran into a group of developers in the parking lot today. They are wanting to develop the lower SE corner of Turkey Mtn. from 71st to the south end of the trails into an amusement park similar to Frontier City with hotels. It would take up 140 acres. It would be called Tulsa Harbour. You can verify this with Jeannie Cue, District 2 City Councilor, and Nick Lombardi, Stan Frisbie Real Estate. LETS OPPOSE THIS! Save Turkey Mountain from the encroachment of commercialization! They can find somewhere else to put their amusement park!
Can I get a pdf copy? Or whatever format you have it in is fine.
I need to make a “download” button that’s a bit more visible…pdf link is in the text.
Awesome work Ron and Co. on the map and the website. I knew the trailhead was wrong, but didn’t know the proper number. Thanks
Damn shame about all the windows in the restrooms…my wife and i were
very dissapointed to see that a few weeks back. Some pricks just have
to ruin it for everyone. Probably from an abusive childhood…
River Parks is replacing the windows again. We’ll use thicker stuff this time. Maybe the wind blew them out…just kiddin. Damn kids.
Will the map be made available to upload the trails to a GPS? Also, how about topo info…could be a great place to train some scouts! Map is great! Thanks for the hard work!
Hi Jodie, Ron has the actual GPS maps, I was simply given a PDF. I’ll see if I can get the GPS maps from Ron.
I know this has been said but feel compelled to say it again. Thanks for the map. It looks great. Thanks for all the hard work to get Turkey to be a nicer place to ride. This is the best that I have seen it in my 13 years of riding there.
Can this map be made available in JPG format for georeferencing, or better yet already in a Garmin custom map georeferenced format?
I definitely need a map. I got lost up there today!!
It would be really helpful if a Garmin file were available showing the tracks. I assume that the map was created using a Garmin. I already have the TOPO for the area from Garmin. If tracks are not available, I will start making my own over time and maybe some other riders can share so we create a file.
It’s nice to see an updated map of the trails on Turkey. With all of the technology available today it’s really about time.
Everything available up to this point has either been or been based upon a map I personally made almost twenty years ago.
I’d gone to the downtown library and found copies of a nineteen sixties’ era USGS topographical survey and enlarged the Turkey Mountain area at a local Kinko’s. Then I went up to Turkey on my old Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo in 1989 with an alitimiter and an Avocet bike computer and spent several long days putting in what trails there were back then in red over the black topo lines.
Over the years it’s always amazed me that no one has ever done anything more than copy and embellish that old map.
Good job RPA for the new pocket sized glossy.
By the way, if anyone wonders where the red, blue and yellow trails come from, I’m to blame for those too. An eagle scout project by Rob Phillips back in 2002 sought my input about marking three loops on Turkey. Red, blue and yellow are what I came up with. I’m glad that they’ve worked out so well over the years.
Jodie – you should be able to get 2-foot contour data from INCOG for your scouting purposes.
It would be very helpful if the data was uploaded to Google Maps. Then you could share it with everyone and it would load directly on a smartphone.
Here are some additional resources linked to from the TATUR maps page. These are all created using Ron’s gps data.

Sorry, I didn’t check that last link and it appears to be broken. I assume it’s the same PDF that is liked in the OP.
I’m a mountain biker from St Louis area, and thinking about coming to Tulsa to ride for a day or 2. I’m wondering what all the 25 miles of unmarked gray trails are like. Info on the internet is ‘all over the map’. (sorry, bad pun)
Thanks!
I think the trails are very fun and challenging. i just started riding at turkey mnt a few days ago. i maybe helping on clean up day on Saturday the 25th.
Wow, just wanted to say today was my first time out there. What a great place my dog and I had a great time and everyone was very friendly!!
This past Saturday (March 24, 2012) was quite a treat on the west side of Turkey Mountain (the pink trail). Because of the rain Mon-Wed, the low areas of the trail often went along a bubbling creek. At the low west side, the trail itself crosses a creek which was rather high, but there were small boulders straddling the crossing. We stopped there to eat, and couldn’t have enjoyed the area more.
I’m a trail runner and I just about died when I found Turkey Mountain. It is perfect and tucked away and I loved that for the most part, I didn’t see other people. I went along the pink trail and the solidarity was UN-parelleled. My ONLY complaint was that I did get pretty turned around (not that I minded) but there are so many other trails leading you off the marked trails that you need to really stay vigilant about the signs!
Hello- I may be overlooking it but where is Turkey Mountain – address please? I googlemapped and it brought me to the border of OK and AR – 4 hours from Tulsa. This must be a different Turkey Mountain, right? an address would be helpful if it exists. thanks!
Just go to 71st and Elwood. Head north on Elwood and you will see the parking lot on your right before you start going up the steep hill.
Was pretty excited to see this trail system after researching it for a waypoint on a trip to Moab. Came away pretty dissappointed.Seems an ungodly amount of intersections that trail co-ordinators should have closed off to control erosion, and keep integrity of the various loops. Friendly people there, and a nice lot and restroom facility. Pity a city of this size has only these trails.
Question, we are planning a hike to help prepare for the Grand Canyon. Looking for hills mainly. We were planning the yellow loop hoping it had the most steepness. Does that sound right or should we consider 2 laps of the blue loop? Thanks
I’m late answering this: the Powerline Trail would have the most steepness. In my experience, most of the Grand Canyon hikes were less “steep”, and more just a very consistent, grinding grade…meaning that overall fitness would be much more crucial than the ability to scramble up steep inclines. Hope that helps!
Last time I was in Tulsa and used these great trails they were off leash for dogs…is this still true…my little o’lady Weimaraner and I had such a good time, twice a day, each day
Great Site, great map, thanks! My dad used to take me to Woodward Park and hiking on Turkey Mountain on Sunday afternoons when I was a kid, in ’78. I remember a trail called “Fat Man Squeeze”… is it still there?
Great story! That’s an awesome trail name, but I haven’t heard of it before. I can think of a couple spots that name could describe, though. Do you remember any more details about it
Where can I find the trail conditions at Turkey Mountain?
The pink trail is very poorly marked. It would be nice if someone would map it or at least mark it better. There are way too many markers for races and other things that can you lead you off the trail very easily.
ORU graduation this next weekend (3rd & 4th) plan to get so recumbent TRIKE riding in – Looks good!
would it be possible to get the pink trail remarked? its marked with randomly spray painted rocks and trees which makes it very hard to follow. thanks.
