June 4th – National Trails Day and Your Opportunity to Sign A HUGE Thank You Note

Screen Shot 2016-05-22 at 8.09.47 AMJune 4, 2016 is American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day®, the country’s largest celebration of trails.  National Trails Day events will take place in every state across the country and will include hikes, biking and horseback rides, paddling trips, birdwatching, geocaching, gear demonstrations, stewardship projects and more.

We will also have a HUGE THANK YOU note for user’s of Turkey Mountain to sign to say thanks to all the groups like the George Kaiser Family Foundation and Quicktrip that are help to preserve private lands around Turkey Mountain from development.

Who yields to who at Turkey?

According to River Parks rules: 


Mountain bikers yield to everyone and must make presence known by calling out as soon as they see someone else, hikers yield to horses, and horse riders direct traffic around them.

Snake Run at Turkey Mountain – Saturday, March 19, 2016

This unique race will be a six hour or three hour timed run taking place on mostly flat, nearly rock and root free, single track trails on the western side of Turkey mountain.

Join us for the 3rd annual Trail Madness –  Sunday, March 6, 2016 1:00pm

Choose between 4km, 8km, and 16km trail races. Races will start and finish at Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area. Races will be run entirely on the Turkey Mountain trail system.

Hike for Healing – Saturday, March 5th at 8:00 a.m.


The Tristesse Grief Center will have their annual Hike for Healing at Turkey Mountain on Saturday, March 5th at 8:00 a.m. This year, Hike for Healing will include a 5K Trail Run through Turkey Mountain as well as a Memorial Mile Walk. “Hike for Healing is exactly what it sounds like: a chance to heal.” Says Alissa Drescher, Senior Program Director for The Grief Center. “The hike is all about remembering those we have lost, and creating happy memories while honoring our loved ones. That message is universal and touches everyone, whether you’re an experienced runner or not.”
